About Calisha
Although I am originally from Ohio, I’ve lived a lot of places and only claim that state when it comes to being a Buckeye. Since leaving there in 1997, I’ve lived in Brooklyn, where I did my undergraduate degree and stayed to become a radio professional for CBS Radio, and have also lived in most cities in Florida including Orlando (twice), Fort Lauderdale, Gainesville and Miami.I guess you could call me a career woman. I’ve started my own magazine and been pretty successful. No need to know all the details, let’s just say I have never hesitated to realize my dreams. Sometimes that meant chasing them! At least it was fun.
I come from a family of 6. And that’s just counting the children my mother, Celeste, gave birth to. She has been a mother to most of my cousins, second cousins, and neighborhood kids while growing up. I am blessed to call her my confidant. Most people can only dream of having such a beautiful person to call mom. And my dad, Bob, is everybody’s friend. He is mister optimistic and has always encouraged me to keep pressing on. After a nasty divorce, my parents didn’t speak for most of my life. Then, when I graduated college in 2003, there was somewhat of a peace treaty that brought them both together with something finally in common again- me. They were both so proud; it is still one of the best days of my life. Today I have remarkable relationships with both of my parents who I can talk to about anything. Mom is there for spiritual guidance (she’s a minister) and dad is always there for practical leadership. I am one lucky girl. And although my childhood was very difficult- I would not change a thing about this journey!
I have got some of the best friends a girl could ask for. They are educated, well-traveled, ambitious, successful, God-fearing, funny, loving, beautiful and honest females. I believe that every woman should surround herself with others who inspire her and bring out the best in her. Thanks to my friends, I've never lost inspiration and have been able to shine like the brightest star in the sky.
And then there’s Steve. I knew I was going to fall in love with him the moment we met. He has this innocent charm about him that had a gravitational pull on me immediately. Since our first date we have been inseperable. Our love is honest, there are no frills and no silk screens. We see each other for exactly who we are- not the person other people think we should respectively be. And that’s why I want to spend my life with him, because he has never asked me to be anyone but myself… all of the sensitive, bitchy, nurturing, bossy, over-achieving, loving, determined, unpredictable woman that I am. He loves it all.
